Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Richard Andrew Forbes was born at Petersham, Sydney, New South Wales. His parents were William James and Mary Teresa Forbes, and he had two brothers and two sisters.
Whilst it is not known when the family moved to Western Australia, it is understood that the family lived in South Perth and Richard attended school at Christian Brothers College, Perth.
After schooling, he worked in the farming industry at ‘Kwolyn’ near Kellerberrin.
Richard enlisted in the army at York on 20 October 1914 and, after training, was posted to 10 Light Horse Regiment. He was promoted to corporal on 19 December 1914.
He embarked on the HMAT Surada on 17 February 1915 at Fremantle, bound for Gallipoli via Alexandria.
Corporal Richard Andrew Forbes, regimental number 405, 10 Light Horse Regiment was killed in action at the Nek, Gallipoli on 7 August 1915. He was 24 years of age.
He is buried in Ari Burnu Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey.
