Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Trooper Maurice Joseph Barry of 10 Light Horse was born in Barcaldine, Queensland in July 1892. He was the son of Edward and Mary Barry of Bassendean; one of three sons and five daughters in the family.
It is not known when he came to Western Australia. He attended school at Serpentine and West Guildford primary schools and, after leaving, worked as a shearer.
Maurice enlisted in Perth November 1915, just two months after the tragic death of his mother.
He was posted to 14 Reinforcement of 10 Light Horse and, after some training, sailed on HMAT Warilda from Fremantle in February 1916.
On arrival in Egypt, they further trained with 3 Training Regiment and in October 1916 they re-joined 10 Light Horse at Moascar and fought battles in the Sinai and Palestine.
Trooper Maurice Joseph Barry, service number 1998 of 10 Light Horse died of wounds received in action in Palestine 23 April 1917. He was 24 years of age.
