Biography abstract:
Warfare in the first months of 1918 was marked by the German Offensive and 16 Battalion was involved in some of the heaviest fighting. In August, after the successful action at Hamel, the Battalion with other australian battalions formed the spearhead of an assault on enemy lines near Amiens.
Private Denis Atkinson Canny, service number 7689 of 16 Battalion, was killed in action on 8 August 1918 at Morcourt, France. He was 42 years of age.
His plaque is placed alongside Private William Pedley, who was in the same 16 Battalion and died on the same day.
