Biography presented during plaque dedication:
Private Percy Allan Clark was born in 1894 at Broken Hill, New South Wales and was later raised in Western Australia. He was the son of William and Esther Clark and he had two brothers and a sister.
He attended Hamel public school and then continued the family tradition of working with the Western Australian Government Railways, where he qualified as a fireman in 1912.
Percy enlisted at Blackboy Hill Military Camp in September 1914 and, after training, embarked at Fremantle on HMAT Ascanius in November, bound for Gallipoli.
After the heavy fighting at Gallipoli he was in hospital and due to be sent home to Australia. However, he recovered and was sent to France, arriving at Marseilles in April 1916.
Percy was wounded in July 1916 and was hospitalised in England. While there, he qualified as an instructor at the bomb school.
He was also in some trouble for being AWOL (absent without leave) but returned to his unit in Belgium in September 1917.
Private Percy Allan Clark, service number 416 of 11 Battalion, was killed in action at Passchendaele on 30 October 1917. He was 23 years of age.
